2015 California Coast Classic Bike Tour Makes Quite an Impression
On Oct. 3, approximately 300 riders across the nation completed the eight-day California Coast Classic (CCC) Bike Tour, spanning an impressive 525 miles along the California coastline. One of the Arthritis Foundation’s largest fundraising events nationwide, the ride brought in almost $1.45 million this year, helping to raise vital funds needed to champion the fight against arthritis as it drew the attention of the local and national media outlets.
“We worked incredibly hard to make sure that the California Coast Classic was a feature story not just in California, but throughout the country,” says Manuel Loya, Arthritis Foundation Pacific Region CEO. “Several of our bike tour participants were interviewed and followed by their local media, and we had several national and web publications that also made the tour their feature stories leading up to and during the ride.”
From online articles posted on The Wall Street Journal and GrindTV websites to full features found in the trade publications Outside, Bicycle and Inland Empire Magazine, the coverage of this year’s California Coast Classic was extensive. Thanks to the hard work of the Arthritis Foundation local staff, the event generated hundreds of unique stories and led to almost 70 million media impressions overall.
“I am incredibly proud of each staff member and volunteer that helped make this year’s California Coast Classic a success for our riders as well as for the Arthritis Foundation,” says Manuel. “We are already planning for the 2016 tour and are working hard to surpass this year’s incredible success.”
