Dosages
50 to 150 mg daily in one to three doses.
Potential Side Effects
Chills; fatigue; fever; loss of appetite; liver problems; low blood counts; nausea; vomiting; weakness.
Special Instructions
Take with food.
Be Aware
Azathioprine is linked to certain cancers, including lymphoma. This drug can cause a dangerous interaction with allopurinol, a drug used for gout.
Your doctor should order periodic blood and urine tests to check for unwanted effects. Before taking any DMARD, tell your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant.
